I hate Justin McElroy for validating my lifelong fear of invisible ocean creatures in my pool with the ‘glass shark’ bit, because now every time I am in ANY body of water I have to act like I’m not afraid of Glass Shark so it can’t smell my very real fear

Don’t mind me…I’m just thinking about how spiders are naturally talented and skilled weavers and they know how to weave their webs and even make functional, stylish homes and nests and whatnot.

So maybe that’s why Spider-Man knows how to sew his suits. He inherited that trait from the spider and just instinctively know how to weave his suits. Maybe. That’s my explanation for it.

Aunt May: You’re buying an awful lot of yarn lately. Are you making something?

Peter, who after getting bit by a spider has felt an inescapable need to knit and now his room is covered head to toe in yarn: Nope. It’s just new hobby.

yknow what. i complained a lot about how it was unrealistic to suddenly know how to put together stretch knits and a perfectly fitting, absolute banger of a suit, but this is an explanation i’ll gladly accept

The four players on dndads each fall perfectly into the four ways of playing dnd

Matt: uses the mechanics to play pretend real hard in a way that is most beneficial to the group

Beth: is perfectly in tune with her character and makes very good, compelling character choices that are sometimes v upsetting

Will: is trying so hard to kiss his friends in fiction will someone please just give this guy a break

Freddie: playing 4-D chess with himself in a way that makes me cackle at his shenanigans

Why is there AI generated images of foxes on iNaturalist 😬

How can a fake image be research grade!!!

The colours and markings of the fox are all wrong. It’s supposed to be an arctic fox but it has the black face, ear and leg markings of a red fox (no arctic fox has marking like that). The fur is very blurry and lacking in detail in many areas. The snow on the ears and face makes no sense. The whiskers are weirdly shaped and detached from the face in areas. The back legs make no sense and are weirdly shaped and overall it just looks super fake.

For years I would look at posts and questionnaires about neurodivergence that takes about being so focused on something that you forgot to eat and be like, “Couldn’t be me. Being hungry is so uncomfortable! Your stomach is growling and cramping? How do you ignore that?”

Then someone informed me that neurotypical people have a whole bunch of “hungry” sensations before they get to that point…..

They what

Yeah, I don’t get it either, but apparently this is a Whole Thing…. Like they somehow detect blood sugar dropping and go, “Ooh, time for lil snack!”

See also: there is a feeling of “oh, I need to pee” that happens before “fidgeting around in my seat to finish this thing before running to the bathroom”

I read this and was like, “this can’t be real” and then I looked for sources and like–

“This can be very harmful for neurodivergent people, as many neurodivergent people struggle to feel internal cues and bodily sensations, including hunger and fullness. An emphasis on “only eating when hungry” can result in neurodivergent people delaying eating until they are so hungry that they are shaky, highly irritable, or even on the verge of passing out. A focus on “stopping when full” may cause neurodivergent people to overthink every bite they take and scrutinize whether they are truly hungry or truly full.

To modify Intuitive Eating for neurodivergent people, it may be important to focus on eating enough and eating consistently throughout the day, rather than eating according to one’s hunger and fullness cues. Neurodivergent people may need more of a structured meal and snack schedule than neurotypical folks in recovery, as well as some guidelines around a minimum amount of food. This does not make their eating less intuitive or their recovery less real - it is an important way of honouring their body’s needs and unique ways of functioning.”

WHAT??????

what the fuck

Cursed to think about how much better so many things in my life would have gone if I’d only had a little snack.

If only we knew how snack time things really are

when i was a child my dad made up a fake holiday called big sandwich night the weekend after thanksgiving, during which we got the longest bread we could find and built a big sandwich together and then cut it up and ate it. we got really fancy ingredients and each built our own section of sandwich before cutting it. building the sandwich together represents community or teamwork or something. and then we would put our christmas tree up and the holiday season was officially kicked off with big sandwich night.

i grew up believing this was a real holiday that americans everywhere celebrated until when i was like 8 i asked a friend if they were excited for big sandwich night and they were like what the hell are you talking about riley. kind of shattered my worldview. but we still celebrate it and ive spread the tradition to friends and partners.

big sandwiches of years past:

as weve included more people weve started having to graft loaves together to make a sandwich big enough for everyone. but it still communicates the core idea of everyone eating the same sandwich together in fellowship.
